Rock Sugar Restaurant - Not Rock Solid!

By no means am I a food critic, however I def. can dish it out if a place is cool or if it just stinks!

From the owners behind popular chain Cheesecake Factory (love love - servings so big it's like a buffet), this new restaurant ROCK SUGAR opened up about a month ago conveniently located in Culver City, CA (think West LA).

A menu that encompasses Indian, Thai, Chinese and other Southeast Asian culinary traditions, I can whole-heatedly say that the food was OK, but not OMG I will gain 5 lbs happily for the extra calories. I was expecting much more. Amazing ambiance paired with stinky service, this place is ok if you are looking to have some Asian food before catching a movie. We made reservations and they had us waiting for 20-25 minute. The hostess took our $20 tip in hopes of getting seated promptly, but he had no hook up and unapologetically had us wait the entire time. Still the muther-effer took the tip. Later in the night, our waitress forgot to bring us one of our shrimp dishes out. After everyone was pretty much done eating, she brings it out. Not all things are fashionably late.

Still there was an upside - Best part of the night hands down was having the desserts. Indulging and obsessing over the carmelized banana custard cake was life changing. For that I recommend trying this restaurant and being your own judge. Good luck and hope your service is better than ours was!

Overall: Nice effort, but work out the kinks from the ground up: Service is important!
